Stop Non-Citizen Voting in D.C.

The Senate could pass a bill that would stop non-citizens from voting in local D.C. elections. This bill has already cleared the House. We’ve made it easy for you to contact your Senators today regarding this issue.

Any person who lives in D.C. for 30 days is currently eligible to vote in local elections, thanks to the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022. This includes people with no legal residential status and even staff members of foreign embassies. Unfriendly foreign emissaries are not excluded from this bill. That means emissaries from China or Russia can have a say in the affairs of our nation’s Capital.

H. R. 192 would “prohibit individuals who are not citizens of the United States from voting in elections in the District of Columbia.” It passed the House in May, with the support of every House Republican and 52 House Democrats. The Senate read the bill in June but has taken no action since.
